Realizing the power of youth in today’s world and their potential to create a difference,  the pre-conference workshop will attempt to engage the youth and give them a platform to voice their opinions firmly, in regards to political, social, economical, and environmental development and share their experiences and ideas that can be implemented to acquire sustainability.
Youth will be playing an integral role in the conference. The different roles that the youth will perform are:
▪ Youth as facilitators
▪ Youth as volunteers
▪ Youth as rapporteurs
▪ Youth as participants
▪ Youth as organizers
In order to build on the strategies, define the roles of each youth participant and to get the participants to know each other, a workshop will be held on the 31st of October 2010. This workshop will give background information on the conference objectives, the Earth Charter and the conference workshops. It will include ice-breaking activities for the participants, discussions, election of youth representatives, building strategies and deliberations on the feasibility of implementation of the strategies. Discussions in the workshop will be on the roles to be played by participants, which workshops they will be a part of - depending on their interests and background - and how the youth can create a niche for themselves in the conference.
